Every year the HLV students participate in the annual Veteran's Day Ceremony. There are readings, music by the bands and choirs, portraits given to Veterans, and slide shows. The elementary art students create a huge banner which is hung during the ceremony.
Look closely and you will see each banner is made of over 100 individual art works thanking Veterans and celebrating our country. The flag is usually created by the lower elementary-- the kindergartners learn how to make stars and are responsible for the sparkle every year, the 1st and 2nd graders are responsible for the stripes, the 3rd graders and 4th graders take care of the foreground image and details.
5th and 6th grade art elementary classes create posters and place-mats welcoming Veterans and their families to the ceremony and lunch following. These art pieces use the same design as the large banner chosen for that year's theme.
